CPPE
New CPPE programme prepares pharmacy technicians for future roles
Pharmacy technicians are increasingly vital in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care. To support them, CPPE has launched a new programme: Pharmacy technician development programme: preparing for the future.
Open for bookings from October 2025, this blended learning programme combines flexible online learning, interactive online and face-to-face workshops, and guidance from a dedicated education supervisor. From the outset, participants complete a learning needs review to tailor their personal development plan and prioritise learning most relevant to their practice.
The programme is designed to help pharmacy technicians build confidence in clinical, leadership, and decision-making skills, with a strong emphasis on adapting to the expanding scope of pharmacy technician practice. This includes supplying and administering medicines under Patient Group Directions, such as the October 2025 expansion of the Pharmacy Contraception Service and evolving requirements under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme. It will also be adapted to include learning on the pending supervision legislation changes.
By engaging in the programme, pharmacy technicians will:
Develop clinical therapeutics and consultation skills
Strengthen decision-making through reflective practice
Build networks for professional and peer support
Apply shared decision-making principles to deliver person-centred care
Learning is fully supported and progresses at a pace that suits the individual. After the programme, you’ll be better prepared to deliver services in whichever sector you work, both now and in the future.
Depression: having meaningful conversations - focal point : CPPE
This online 1-hour 45-minute workshop has been designed to support pharmacy professionals to start and have conversations with a person about Depression. The pre-workshop materials give some background and resources to support talking about depression. The workshop activities include discussions with peers on the approaches that could be used in a number of scenarios. As treatments for depression are due to be added to the NMS service in October 2025, this workshop will support pharmacy professionals to enhance this aspect of their communication skills.
